I was introduced to this perspective by one of my friend, Cathleen Beams aka Cathy. She runs an awesome blog at : www.cathyspages.com . ‘A conversation with the younger me’, I think it would be a very interesting conversation.
Hence, when I heard this from Cathy. I just loved it. Life is funny, there are so many uncertainties in it. Now, if we can imagine ourselves 10 years before this very second, we will find it so amazing to talk to the guy.

He is still confused, running, hustling, and agonizing, to do whatever he wants to. It could be when he got caught by his engineering college management, for smoking in an under-construction building inside the college, with his friends.
It’s a different challenge, but when we remember it after 10 years, we will laugh on our foolishness, and the pathetic situation of our friends that time, when we all were shitting in our pants, out of fear.

It could be that time when he was hopelessly chasing a girl, he loved. And he thought she loves him too. Today, we laugh louder on the hopeless chases we did, behind our crush. All those things were so important at that time.
Right now, also, we are running behind so many things, who are so important to us, that we are ready to sacrifice our peace of mind for that.
Ten years from now, when we will read this blog again, we will laugh again on the majority of things we are worrying about today.
But, if it is possible, and I get a chance to meet my younger self, what could I say to him.
What an interesting event would it be, meeting myself. I was in the 11th standard at that time. What a nightmare I was for my teachers and my family. Especially. My mother. *Haha.
What were you guys doing? I am sure something interesting, dumb, and fun. Just like me. We all are the same only, yet so different.
You can take a minute and think about decade-old funny memories, of yours. *Wynk.
Are you smiling? If not, you just read through.
I am serious here, take a minute. 😊
Are you smiling now? Great, I am glad I made you smile.
But, what can we say to ourselves?
Now, when we know the consequences of all our actions at that time. Should we ruin his fun? By telling him the future. Or, we just ask him to stay calm.
We can probably say, ‘Bro! I know what is going to happen but I prefer not to tell you.’
Simply because if I tell you, what fun will be left in your life? The fun of accomplishing challenges, thriving in the times of uncertainty, holding up in the time of despair.
We believe it or not, but this is life. And, it is so beautiful. Things will happen when they have to happen, there is no control over it. Hence, we can cherish every moment, just because it is new.
Life is so refreshing; I don’t think there is even a single second which is the same as the last ones. Every time it is something new, yes Déjà vu can be some exceptions, but how many Déjà vu do we get in our life?
I will say to him, ‘This doesn’t mean you will just sit on the couch and do nothing.’ Our life is always moving amidst the chaos, and yet it is slow uniform, and work under constraints.
Can we relate this to a photon of light? Moving in a space. Now, this photon can go in any direction, unless it is kept under a straight line and towards its destination by some external force.

The good news is, that we don’t need any external force to control and direct photons of our life. So how?
Our decisions.
Our decisions work as the guiding checkpoints for our life. They are like the Table Tennis rackets, through which we can reflect the ball, where we want it to go.
Our decisions are the tools to build our life. A statue is just a piece of stone until it is stricken with chisels and hammers, to carve out a beautiful shape out of it. Now, it is on us, what we want to carve out.

We can carve an Einstein out of us, or Cristiano Ronaldo, or even better we can carve the best of ourselves, which is unique, fresh, and new to this world. All the power is in our hands only.
God is too busy managing this whole universe, which is so big, we cannot even imagine. Every second there is so much going on in the universe. That too at a scale which is billion-trillion times larger than us.

We are just a small bunch of humans, living in this tiny and negligible dot called earth. Hence, we are not that important. God gave us a place to live and food to survive and flourish, what else are you expecting from God? A Tesla Roadster? Or Kylie Jenner?
Well, I don’t think God has time for such petty matters. Hence, it is on our hands to reach that place. And, the only way to reach there, is our efforts and our decisions.
Life will keep on moving with the speed of light, we have to direct our photons to where we want to reach.
I know this is going out of context, hence let’s take a decision and take the conversation back to our younger self. *See how easy it is.
‘I know life is hard right now, and it will always be. No one promised you, that life will be a fairy tale. Even fairy tales are dramatic.’ But I can tell you one thing, that in the end, you will win. I know I told you the climax, but trust me. It won’t ruin the fun of reaching the heights of success.
Most of the time, it will be a peak after peak, you can surely rest for a while and enjoy the view, but sooner or later, you have to start climbing again for the next destination. The higher you will reach; the more low and irrelevant earlier peaks will get.

We can surely remember the lessons we learned when our grip slipped, and we fell. But there is no need to remember the dirt, which we dusted from ourselves, before starting to reclimb. The view ahead is more beautiful and newer.
Hence, there is always a good reason to keep moving. I know you must be finding these things very silly and foolish because I know you, you are me only. 😊
But relax, call your friends and have fun. Do study, it is important too. But nothing is more important than your happiness. You can be performing your best with a calm mind only.
And our mind can only be calm when it is just focussed on the next step and nothing else, at that moment. And, of course, the view, which we can enjoy anytime.
Well, I said enough, just go my tiger, and be your best, you are unstoppable, but only if you believe in it. And, trust me you can believe in it.
See you later, you will meet me yourself, after 10 years. At that time, I would be in some other dimension of time, kicking some asses and trying to connect to you. Just like Interstellar.

Oops! It is not released yet? It will in 2014, five years from now. You won’t understand it, but you will understand it eventually.
Though, I know everything about your next 10 years, I won’t ruin your fun. All I’ll say is, that in the end, YOU WILL WIN!
Believe me, ‘I’ am ‘you’ only. Or you can believe in yourself too, ‘you’ are ‘me’ only.
Good Bye!

Wonderful post. I enjoyed reading the expanded musings on your site.
If only we could go back in time and talk to ourselves.
I would go back to the me in my twenties and tell her to take better care of herself, exercise regularly, and to eat healthier. I would tell her to read more and pay attention to what successful people do. I would do many things differently, I hope, if I had the chance for a do over.
It’s probably good that we don’t get that chance. That we have to live and learn the hard way from the consequences of our not so wise choices in life.
Those experiences make us stronger perhaps. The difficulties we face, mold and encourage us to do better.
If I could go back, I would attempt to improve and remedy some mistakes I made along the way. I’d be more frugal with my spending and invest more towards retirement.
But of course, the younger me, probably wouldn’t listen too well to the older wiser me.

I am glad you like it Cathy. 🙂
Indeed we can do so many things with our past self.
But, I think peace of mind lies where we are, right now.
