The Best Anti-Depressant in the world

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

A story of a day started with disappointment.

The disappointment of not meeting last night’s expectations, yet another morning.

The disappointment of not living a life, which got left in a parallel universe, in a different dimension.

The disappointment which suddenly transformed to frustration.

The frustration which suddenly changed to anger.

Heights of anger!

The epitome of frustration!

Heights in which we start imagining stuff, where we are smashing people, and blowing their heads off.

Anger, so consuming, it makes our head feel like exploding, makes us pull our hair out of the scalp.

What are we supposed to do? How to get rid of this feeling, which is gladly killing us?

Have a fight with someone? Maybe yell at our mother, or girl friend?

Maybe it is good to flush out things, our loved ones often suggest us to do so. They think it’s a good thing for us. And, out of their love for us, they are ready to take the beating.

But, the question is, do we really need to hurt someone else, to suppress our agony?

Isn’t it’s like an eye for an eye.

Existing Agony + New Guilt = Not sure what, but definitely something worst.

As per the above equation, definitely, yelling is not a cure. Rather, it’s like a spice rubbed over an open wound.

If that’s not appropriate. There must be another way, a better way, to kill sadness, sorrow, tears, and emotional pain.

Well, the good point is, THERE IS!

Let’s read a story and explore the best Anti-depressant in the world. Shall we?

After yelling at his mother, a boy mounted over his shining bullet, to meet his old friend, which he thinks will save him from this feeling, eating his mind and torturing his soul.

O boi! He is lucky. At least he got a friend to go and meet, many of us don’t have. Riding towards his friend’s home, he called his girlfriend and yelled a bit more.

She, just like an angel kept listening, as she knew, what his man is going through.

Suddenly, he saw an old man, standing beside a road, eagerly asking for a lift from commuters.

People already occupied with themselves, are often blind to others need.

That frustrated agonized and sad guy offered him a lift.

Where do you want to go, sir? Asked the young man.

To church. Replied the old man.

Definitely, Though, I have to go near by only, since its too hot, and I don’t have an important place to reach, anyway. Let me drop you to the church.

Reaching the church, which was 3 km away from his intended destination. The young man got blessings and an invitation to spend 5 minutes in the church. With no place to go, other than his friend. The young man, accepted.

That old man was the cardinal of that church, who was getting late for a Sunday morning prayer, got delighted, by getting a lift from a stranger. He reaches the podium and thanked that young man and god three times, in front of everyone.

Young man, delighted with the appreciation felt a little less sad, little less agonized.

The old man started singing a beautiful and melodious song, notes and tones so soothing, it felt like peace, tranquility, and divine energies are rushing inside that old church, to listen to that old man’s voice.

Might be his fragile emotional state, or miserable life circumstances, who knows? But that song surely gave goosebumps to that young man. Like he was destined to come to this place and listen to those beautiful melodies. Anyways.

Soon, after finishing his song, the old man came back to the young man to thank him again, as he saw him preparing to leave.

After a few words of joyful conversation, he suddenly took young man’s hands and kept them over his head. Asked for his mobile number, blessed him a bit more, and thanked him much more

Sadness was gone, the agony was nowhere to be seen. The thankful gestures of someone in need were so strong, no negative vibes could have survived, and they didn’t.

That young man went to meet his friend and picked him. Together they went to their regular place. While he was parking his bike, a small child named Raj, came to him. Deprived of food, deficient of love, he asked for some money.

Bhaia, give me some money, I am hungry.

What do you want to eat?

I want to drink.

Go, and pick whatever you want.

While that child was going for a modest soft drink, he got interrupted by the young man, who asked, do you want to drink coke in a can?

Well, what’s great in that? Who knows? But suddenly that child got filled with joy and said yes please, I never had coke in a can.

Next 10 mins, while that cute poor kid was enjoying his coke drop by drop, sip by sip. It was a sheer pleasure to watch his beautiful smile and those lovely dimples on his cheeks. Anyone looking at that child’s feelings of joy, couldn’t stop himself from smiling too.

A place, full of happy people.

No one was sad there,

None was frustrated.

No one was crying, and everyone was happy.

Suddenly, that young man was so happy, he couldn’t believe he was crying an hour earlier.

The charm of that child’s smile, and the shower of blessings of that old man is what he got from all those random acts of kindness.

 Wait, is that it?

No, that young man was happy, the happy and joyful vibes from people who were smiling and laughing because of him, just eradicated every drop of agony from his mind, body, and soul.

He called his mother, and told her, “Mummy, I know you must be sitting and thinking about me, worried about what I am going through right now. I just called to say, I am happy now, you can relax, Bye.”

By the way,

That young man, lost 2K after few minutes, due to some not so important reasons, but he was still happy.

Not only, those bad feelings never came back, but even when actually something bad happened, that young man was already immune from sorrow, for that day, or maybe forever, who knows?

Next time, you are sad and irritated, nothing is going in your way, expectations are not getting fulfilled, dreams getting shattered, life scattered, your patience giving up, etc. etc.

Just go out of your house and help someone.

It could be anything, just offer someone food, or water, if that is too big, offer someone respect. You can choose your own ways.

Point is, the moment you see someone happy because of you. Nothing can make you sad now.

The purpose of this article is not to evoke any emotion for the protagonist, the young man in this case, or that old man, at the later stage of his life, or that small child, who is about to start his life.

They are just a few characters in the drama of life, but the purpose is to highlight a simple transaction.

A transaction killing negativity, agony, and pain. And, fulfilling love, happiness, joy and laughter.

The purpose is to highlight, the best anti-depressant in the cosmos, i.e.

Random acts of Kindness.
